What is impetigo?
Answered by admin
Question:
My son was recently diagnosed with impetigo. Can you explain what this is? I was scared when I first heard this but then somebody told me it fairly common and benign.
Answer:
Impetigo is a bacterial infection of the skin. It most commonly occurs after an abrasion or scrape of the skin and can be contagious. Your son may have caught it from another child. The good news is that is usually very easy to treat with oral and topical antibiotics.
