Fake Botox Treatment
Answered by admin
In April of this year the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced that fraudulent versions of the drug Botox are being sold in the United States. Allergan Inc. is the only company approved by the FDA to produce and distribute Botox in the United States. The FDA said in an alert that the outer carton of the fraudulent Botox is counterfeit, and the vial inside is foreign and not approved for sale in the United States.
In a statement, Allergan said that in addition to violating federal law, products that are illegally imported may either be counterfeit or the quality may have been compromised: “Therefore, healthcare professionals purchasing products from a non-Allergan supplier are purchasing products that are fraudulently diverted and sold through unauthorized channels.”
Patients who are seeking Botox treatment should also do their due diligence in making sure that they are receiving authentic Botox. A common red flag is the price of the product. Many medi-spas and unlicensed medical facilities offer Botox injections at seemingly rock-bottom prices compared to what you would pay at a plastic surgeon’s or dermatologist’s office. In the case of Botox, many of the medical spas purchase wholesale quantities of the drug from third-party distributors which are not regulated by the FDA.
In 2004, four people were hospitalized with poisoning after being injected with non-FDA approved botulinum toxin, which a doctor had passed off as authentic Botox. The case prompted a wide scale investigation of over 200 clinics throughout the United States and dozens of convictions of people who injected patients with non-FDA approved cheaper substitutes for Botox.
When performed properly and with a legitimate product, Botox can reduce the appearance of frown lines, crow’s feet, forehead creases and other dynamic wrinkles for three to four months, providing natural, more youthful results.
