Tattoo Removal in New York and New Jersey
Skin Laser & Surgery Specialists of New York and New Jersey offer tattoo removal laser treatment to the residents of New York and New Jersey.
Laser therapy is one of the most exciting treatments for removing unwanted tattoos. Lasers work by emitting a specialized light that is passed through the skin and preferentially absorbed by its target, be it an unwanted hair, vein, or in this case, the unwanted pigment from tattoo ink in the skin. The laser causes the pigments to break up and disappear, leaving you with smooth, clear skin. We use several Q-switched and newer picosecond lasers that can remove a variety of different tattoo colors. In general older Q-switched lasers are better at treating newer black tattoos. Picosecond systems such as PicoSure and Enlighten are better a treating older tattoos and some colors such as yellow that do not respond to Q-switched lasers.
Which Laser Should I Choose?
As one of the premier laser centers in the nation, Skin Laser & Surgery Specialists of New York and New Jersey is proud to offer a wide variety of lasers to treat unwanted tattoos. This allows us to treat the widest variety of patients and situations. Each option performs best for different types of patients and needs. Our doctors will assess the laser that is best for you.
Will Tattoos Completely Disappear?
The outcome of your tattoo removal depends on many factors that Dr. Goldberg and his staff may be unable to determine. The rise in popularity of tattoos means hundreds of inks and tattoo techniques are used, and these factors significantly affect the ability to remove your tattoo. In many cases, though, patients experience almost complete removal of their tattoos.
Do All Colors Of Ink Disappear Equally As Well?
No, blue, black, green, yellow and red inks fade the best. Purple may also respond.
What Can I Expect With The Procedure?
Most people describe the treatment feeling like a rubber band snap. You may be given a topical anesthetic cream to numb the area to be treated. Any discomfort can be eased with the application of cool compresses. After treatment, you can immediately return to your normal activities.
How Many Treatment Sessions Will It Take To Remove the Tattoo?
When dealing with tattoos, the average, professional tattoo requires more than 6-8 treatments, while amateur tattoos require more than 3-4 treatments, all spaced approximately at least 4-6 weeks apart. The number of treatments depends on the amount and type of ink used and the depth of the ink in the skin.
What Type Of Post-Treatment Care Is Necessary?
After your laser tattoo removal, a special dressing will be used to cover and protect the treatment area. You should protect the area from dirt and other debris and apply the antibiotic ointment as described by Dr. Goldberg. Wait at least 24 hours before showering and do not scrub the treatment area. You may experience minimal bleeding at the treatment site that is no larger than the head of a pin.
Will Insurance Cover This Procedure?
Laser treatments of tattoos and pigments, like other cosmetic procedures, are not usually covered by your insurance company. If you have any questions, it is best to talk with your provider.
