Should a plastic surgeon be the one to perform a biopsy on the face?
Answered by admin
Question:
I was at the dermatologist the other day to have a spot on my cheek checked out. I didn’t see my regular dermatologist but saw the nurse instead, who said she thought it was a basal cell carcinoma and that she’d do a biopsy. She was just about to start when I stopped her and asked if it would scar. She said yes so I didn’t go ahead with the procedure. I’d like to minimize the scarring since it’s in such a noticeable area. Is this something I should have a plastic surgeon do?
Answer:
A scar may occur no matter who does the biopsy. Remember that dermatologists are best at determining whether a biopsy is even required.
