Light Therapy, Does it work?
These days, it seems that there is a new innovation in skin care around every corner. With a growing emphasis on the ways to reduce and prevent the signs of aging, the clever and surprising tools we can use to heal the skin is one topic that does not seem to be slowing down any time soon.
If you have been seeking a younger and more youthful glow, then you may have heard about light therapy. Also known as LED therapy, this is one of the many options available to enhance your appearance. But what really is light therapy, how does it compare to laser therapy, and does it actually work? We’re here to explain.
What is Light Therapy?
Light therapy is a process by which colored or colorless (infrared) lights are emitted onto the skin. These light waves travel deep into the treatment area, where they stimulate a cellular response. In most cases, this response is the production of new collagen, which adds buoyancy, life and a youthful appearance to the face.
Most patients seek light therapy to reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles or address troublesome skin concerns such as acne. A simple and convenient procedure, it is usually around 15 minutes in length. Although patients may feel warmth from the lights at first, in time, the overall sensation is usually one of relaxation.
What is Laser Therapy?
Laser therapy operates under a similar principle and procedure as light therapy. The main difference here is that in light therapy, the light photons are more diffused, while in laser therapy, the light photons are more concentrated. This makes laser therapy a more focused, penetrative option.
