How can I tell if I have impetigo?
Answered by admin
Question:
We recently found out that someone in my son’s class has impetigo which we’ve heard is very contagious. I haven’t seen anything suspicious on my son but my younger daughter who is not yet in school has a small rash that I’m worried about. Is it possible for my son to pass it to her without actually having it himself? What would the rash look like if it is impetigo?
Answer:
Impetigo is usually spread by direct skin to skin contact. Your son would need the characteristic scabbing rash to be in contact with your daughter’s skin for this to happen. If your son does not have the rash, it is unlikely that your daughter has “caught” her rash from him. Best to see your dermatologist to be certain.
