How do I know eczema is eczema and not another rash?

Question:
My son has a rash on his lower back toward his buttocks. I assumed it was a little patch of eczema, but because it’s round a friend told me that it might be ringworm. How can I tell the difference and should I be concerned?
Answer:
Generally ringworm is red and scaly on the edges with clear skin in the center. It is also usually itchy. However, there are variations on this presentation and it is best that you make an appointment to see a dermatologist… Ringworm is also very treatable!
