Cellulite: Removing the Lumpy Look with Body Sculpting Treatments
Although cellulite is more commonly seen in women, it is also present in men. In an area with cellulite – usually the abdomen, buttocks, hips, and thighs – the overlying skin looks lumpy and dimpled. This is caused by the uneven fatty tissue that is beneath the layers of skin. While cellulite is not harmful, it can affect a person’s self-confidence, especially in the summer when shorts, dresses, and bathing suits are popular attire.
Causes of Cellulite
Underneath the skin are fibers that tightly bind the skin to the underlying muscles. As fat stores build up, they push against the skin. Because the fibers are holding the skin to the muscle, the fat cells push up and cause areas of skin to appear uneven.
Cellulite is often present in men and women who are overweight, but it still appears in many people who are at a healthy weight. It is genetic by nature and becomes more apparent with increasing age, due to the decrease in skin elasticity.
Two Body Sculpting Treatments That Fight Cellulite
Accent treatments use radio frequencies to tighten the skin. This helps reduce the appearance of the underlying fat cells. The radio-frequency energy goes deep into the skin and tissue where the energy heats the tissue and fat cells. It simultaneously helps stimulate the production of collagen while increasing circulation. This helps the body naturally remove the excess fat.
During an Accent treatment session, the skin is coated with a special oil. The Accent device is then moved over the areas. There is little discomfort, and many patients liken the therapy to a deep tissue massage. After the 10- to 40-minute session, patients are able to resume daily activities. Approximately eight sessions are required, and they are scheduled every two weeks.
Bella Contour is another popular option for treating cellulite. The FDA-approved treatment uses a hand-held device that relies on ultrasound waves, electrical currents, and vacuum pressure. Combined, the skin is tightened, fatty deposits dissolved, and then the body disposes of the fat naturally.
Expect between five to ten Bella Contour treatments in all. You can schedule them as little as three days apart. The procedure feels like a combination of a hot stone massage and deep tissue massage. Following the procedure, skin may be slightly red, but normal activities may be resumed.
