Question:

My rosacea seems to be worse when I drink alcohol. Does that mean I can't ever drink? I do enjoy a cocktail every now and then.

Answer:

Alcohol, like spicy foods and hot drinks, can cause vasodilation of facial blood vessels. Although alcohol consumption does not casue rosacea, the dilated flushed blood vessels of rosacea can be worsened after alcohol intake. An absolute prohibition is not required; moderation is advisable.

Question:

Are professional skincare products better for rosacea than products you get at the drugstore or department store?

Answer:

Rosacea irritation and swelling is best treated with topical and oral physician prescribed medications. Rosacea related redness is best treated with a variety of lasers and light sources. Drugstore and department store rosacea products generally are ineffective in treating rosacea and in some situations may actually worsen the condition.
