Question:

How is psoriasis different from eczema?

Answer:

Psoriasis is generally symmetrical (elbows, knees and other places0- eczema is not. The psoriasis rash generally has more scale and can be associated with arthritis. Both psoriasis and eczema do run in families.

Question:

My daughter has psoriasis. I hate the thought of using caustic medications on her and would like to know if there are any natural remedies for helping to relieve her symptoms or anything else that is safe on children.

Answer:

Unfortunately no natural remedies do much for psoriasis. However, there are many non-caustic topical treatments, and totally painless excimer laser treatments, that can markedly improve psoriasis.

I was recently diagnosed with psoriasis and was told that there is no cure just management. What can I do to prevent outbreaks and keep my psoriasis in check?

Answer:

There is no cure. But there are a variety of highly effective topical creams. For more difficult patients, treatment with the excimer laser can be highly effective.

Answer:

Most, but not all people, who have psoriasis also have a family history of psoriasis. Otherwise, psoriasis occurs in both men and women as well as children and adults.

Psoriasis generally does not cause hair loss. However if the itching that can be caused by psoriasis is extensively scratched the hair in that area may be decreased.

Answer:

A large variety of shampoos may help your psoriasis. Some of the better ones may require a prescription.

There are a variety of prescription creams that can help the itching associated with your psoriasis. If they don't do the job, try excimer laser treatment. This laser is painless and helps not only the itching, but also the rash of psoriasis.
