Question: I have horrible acne. Is Accutane a good treatment for this? Are there any side effects? Answer: There is no question that Accutane is a highly effective treatment for severe acne. However what has been a godsend for some has been a curse for others. The drug is always associated with dry eyes and dry skin and can be associated with arthritis, mental depression, arthritis and deformed babies. It also is often not a cure for acne. More commonly, now we are trying a laser approach known as photodynamic therapy (PDT). With this approach a topical medication is activated by a laser light source. This process can dramatically improve acne without the side effects associated with Accutane.
