Question: I have some pretty bad spider veins on my legs. I've heard great things about laser vein treatment, but can this treat large veins? Larger blue spider veins used to be treated with surgical vein stripping. Answer: Newer laser approaches are available in major laser centers such as ours and involve the use of endovenous lasers. Initially we will do an ultrasound evaluation of your leg veins to be sure you are an appropriate candidate. If you are, the laser can miraculously decrease the size of such veins and the associated discomfort seen with some larger veins.

Question: I've heard that birthmarks can't be removed but they can be lightened in color. If this is true, how significantly improved can you expect them to be and do you need ongoing treatment forever. Answer: The most common birthmark we treat is a portwine stain birthmark. This is usually best treated with the pulsed dye laser. Optimal results are achieved if treatment is begun within the first several months of life.

Question: I have some very visible veins that I would like to have treated. I’ve heard this is often done with sclerotherapy and that this involves some type of solution that is injected into the veins. Is this safe? Answer: Sclerotherapy, or vein injections, is the treatment of choice for small blue spider veins on the legs. This is often combined with Nd:YAG laser therapy which works best for very small red leg veins – those that are too small for the needle injections of sclerotherapy.
