Question:

Is it possible to become immune to Dysport? Does its effectiveness decrease after multiple treatments?

Answer:

Becoming immune to Dysport, Botox or Xeomin is often discussed. There is no clinical evidence that when these products are used for cosmetic purposes that this has ever happened.

Question:

I keep hearing about new Botox-like injectables like Dysport and Xeomin. Are there any benefits to using these instead of Botox?

Answer:

All three names are those of FDA approved botulinum injections. Although they all work similarly, there are some subtle differences. Botox has been around the longest in the US, so there is the most experience with it. Some feel that Dysport diffuses more when injected in the skin. With that in mind,  itmay be more helpful around the thin skin of crows’ feet and lower eyelids. Xeomin is the purest of the three. In the end, your cosmetic dermatologist’s experience with all 3 products is what counts the most.

Question:

I've heard that Dysport spreads further from the point of injection than Botox so fewer injections are needed. Does this mean that you pay less overall with Dysport than Botox?

Answer:

Although this point is debatable, Dysport may spread a little more than other injected botulinum injections. Because of that we like it for the thin wrinkles around the eye. Costs of treatment is generally similar to that of Botox®.

Question:

Do the effects of Botox and Dysport injections differ?

Answer:

They are very similar and are similar to Xeomin --a third substance now also approved by the FDA. We sometimes choose between the 3 based on the patient and the location of their wrinkles.

Question:

I keep hearing that Dysport is supposed to be better than Botox. Is this true and how?

Answer:

They in fact are very similar. Although there are advocates for both, we often use them interchangeably. Dysport does seem to diffuse in the skin a little more than does Botox.  This can be used to an advantage in some areas such as around the eyes. Conversely, we do not want this diffusion around more sensitive areas like the eyebrow. In those areas we use Botox.
