Question: I've had frequent itching for years on my legs but never have a rash present. I've tried changing lotions, detergents, etc. but nothing has worked. Is it still possible this is an allergic reaction to something, even without a rash, and do you have any suggestions for what I can do? Answer: There are so many causes of itchy skin. Some causes are of no medical significance; others can be serious. Best to see your dermatologist for a full evaluation.

Question: My son was just diagnosed with atopic dermatitis. Can this be caused by stress? Our family has gone through quite a bit of stress in the past few months that I feel has really impacted my son and his condition seems to coincide with this. Answer: Atopic dermatitis (eczema) is not caused by stress, but like many rashes is worsened with stress. Although removing stress will not totally clear the eczema, a lessening of the stressful situation will make a big change.
