Question:

Is it possible to become immune to Dysport? Does its effectiveness decrease after multiple treatments?

Answer:

Becoming immune to Dysport, Botox or Xeomin is often discussed. There is no clinical evidence that when these products are used for cosmetic purposes that this has ever happened.

Question:

I've heard that Xeomin has no additives. What does this mean for the patient? Is it good or bad?

Answer:

Xeomin does not have the amount of additional proteins that are seen with both Botox and Dysport. In theory as one gets more and more Botox and Dysport injections over a lifetime, these proteins will be processed kind of like allergy shots.  The patient will become desensitized to the Botox or Dysport (because of the associated protein) and the Botox and Dysport will not work as well. In practicality this has never been seen and may only be a theoretical. Having said that, Botox, Dysport and Xeomin are all great for treating wrinkles. The art of the treatment is the approach used by your physician – not the actual product.

Question:

What is Xeomin? I heard it's similar to Botox.

Answer:

Xeomin is the newest in family of FDA approved products that work similar to Botox.  These include Botox, Dysport and Xeomin. All are very similar but have some subtle differences. We use them all.  The next product that may be  FDA approved is PurTox, a product that is has been studied in our office for the last 3 years. This Johnson & Johnson product is not yet available.

Question:

How does Dysport compare to Botox? Do they perform the same and last the same amount of time?

Answer:

They are both excellent and our patients like them both. Some patients do find that Dysport starts working a day sooner than does Botox. Both last about 3-4 months.
