Question: I always thought acne was caused by bacteria. I bought a special face wash and have been washing my face diligently for the past three weeks with no results. Why is this? What else can I do to get rid of my acne? Answer: Some bacteria do play a role in acne. However, bacteria are not the primary cause of the problem. The primary casue is a blockage of the hair follicles called a comedone. Comedones are also known as blackheads or whiteheads. It is this blockage that leads to an overgrowth of bacteria. There are many ways to treat acne. But best to see your dermatologist to find the right treatment for you.
