Question: I have a wart on my elbow. I had them as a kid, but haven’t had them now for at least 20 years. The one on my elbow has been around for at least 2 years now, despite my doctor saying that they will go away on their own. How should I treat it? Answer: Warts go away when your body finally perceives them as abnormal and your immune response comes in and gets rid of the wart causing virus. The most commonly used methods to remove warts are either freezing them or scraping off the wart containing skin in your dermatologist’s office. This approach decreases the number of remaining wart virus particles and the irritation produced by these medical treatments may accelerate the body’s immune response in an attempt to get rid of them.
